Polar Bird, Saturday, 17th November 2001
A cold grey sky and rough, menacing surf beckoned the day. We spent the day with Chunky playing around with knots and rope techniques in the bar. Time passed surprisingly quickly. In between times were spent in the rec room watching videos and tapping away at the monitor. The bilge pump below the floor would kick in often, a major distraction accompanied by the loud cacophonic suction of the WCs. The ship was rocking quite heavily today. Air temp 3.5°, sea temp 5° with a steady 28 knot SW breeze with plenty of storm petrels flitting about. Had drinks with Joe Johnson, the VL (Voyage Leader) before dinner. The bar was lively tonight with most people putting aside the sea-sickness for a few Cascades and a good yarn. The male passengers were well looked after by the ladies of the bar ! Time back one hour, yet again !
