Landing Bluff, Monday, 17th December 2001

Day 10 at Druzhnaya and our hopes of onward travel south the Beaver Lake were again rudely shattered with inclement weather returning in the morning. It's just faecal ! Effectively three OK days with seven bad. It's just not cricket. The strongish winds in the morning escalated into the worst blizzard so far in the late afternoon. I leaned into the furious gale with the anemometer, elevated somewhat like a leaning Statue of Liberty and read 50 knots with gusts up to 55. Snow was just driving like mad, visibility down to 70m. It got worst after the sked with the anemometer being gusted off the scale at 62 knots. The winds were causing problems with the chimneys and we had to shut a couple of heaters down. The buggers at TerraSavoje had 15 knots with OK weather. The conditions are expected to last till tomorrow.
