Landing Bluff, Wednesday, 19th December 2001

At last the blizzard passed over, but weather conditions and visibility were still not good enough for flight operations. The AMISOR guys were already two weeks overdue to commence their ice shelf science programs and getting justifiably frustrated. The wind eased off by the afternoon with occasional patches of blue sky and the sun trying to peep through. The quads were arked up to charge our batteries and we popped a 200L drum of Russian kero into the huts we were using, in readiness for departure. Hopefully we would all be out of here in a couple of days if the good weather holds up. The forecast is relatively good until the weekend when it is predicted that it will return to its usual blizz self. I almost went into spasms of horror when it was suggested over the sked that we might need some R&R at Davis after our "arduous" wait at Druzhnaya ! We didn't come all this way for a bloody holiday. Tom cracked his James Beam into our International Roast "Rust" and we retired late. -7 degrees and clear at 2 am. We really hope that we will be on the move later today !!!
